Record number of grads at commencement
A record number of winter graduates took part in the downtown Denver commencement at the Colorado Convention Center in December. The university handed out 455 bachelor's degrees, 357 master's degrees, and 12 doctoral degrees for a total of 824 graduates.

The campus closed at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, and remained closed through Friday, Dec. 23. Most employees will not be charged vacation or other time off during the closure. (Find out more)

GSPA tackles global warming
The Graduate School of Public Affairs has become the home of a project that could significantly influence United States policy toward global warming.
The school has received a $500,000 grant to create a climate action plan for the next President of the United States.

Grad students eager to teach
When the Business School’s Mike Mannino, who also leads the campus’ PhD director’s group, and Center for Faculty Development Director Ellen Stevens organized a workshop for graduate students interested in teaching, they were surprised by the response.

NLC nominated for film fest honors
UCDHSC’s National Learning Centers’ (NLC) five-part job search series, “The Ultimate Job Search for the 21st Century” has been recognized as one of the short-list nominees at the New York Film & Video Festival. The UCDHSC community made a large contribution to the production of the series with the procurement side of it, along with several staff members and university theater students who had various ‘starring’ roles. 

Graduate recruiting campaign update
In an effort to increase graduate student enrollment, the university this fall launched a recruitment campaign that included a month of advertisements in the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, with additional ads in the Denver Business Journal, Latino Suave magazine, 15 Clear Channel radio stations and Colorado Public Radio (KCFR).

NVTI celebrates 20th anniversary
On Nov. 30, 1986, 24 people from around the country traveled to Denver for a new class to polish their professional skills in helping their veteran clients obtain gainful employment. In the past 20 years, the National Veterans Training Institute (
NVTI) has evolved.

A stellar year for research dollars
The University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center received a record $374 million in sponsored research grants during fiscal year 2006–about a 3 percent increase over 2005–indicating that the university’s researchers are thriving in a highly competitive national quest for public and private research dollars.

  • Copper Nickel, a journal of art and literature published at the University of Colorado at Denver, announces the publication of its seventh issue, featuring cast iron sculpture by Denver-based artists including Rian Kerrane and Mark Guilbeau. Copper Nickel will celebrate the release of this issue with a reception on Friday, Jan. 26, from 6-9 p.m. at Ironton Gallery (3636 Chestnut St., Denver) and with a cast-iron pour on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 4-10 p.m. at Ironton, in conjunction with the exhibition Iron Et Cetera.
