The goals defined by planners in the initiation of the Academic Master Plan in 2004 need to envelop the mission represented by the consolidation process. That was the pervading message at a day-long strategic action session at the Grant Humphries Mansion Nov. 16.

Special ed leaders eye SEHD advances
Three key leaders from the U.S. Office of Special Education (OSEP) and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) got a good look at the great research going on at the School of Education and Human Development. Catalog survey offers direction for 2007-2008
In October, an e-mail survey about the course catalog was sent to 118 associate deans, advisors and catalog contacts at the university. Of those, 82 completed the survey in full (5 partial responses) for a 69 percent response rate. Results from the survey have helped determine a strategy for the catalog for the next few years.

- Donations are being accepted through Dec. 18 for gift baskets to benefit the children and families of Whittier Elementary School as part of the Adopt-a-School program. The goal is 50 baskets. Donations can be dropped off under the Mitten Forest tree at the Auraria Library, or at other box locations across campus.
- Nobel Prize talks in December include Steven Medema of Economics presenting the Economics Prize Talk in North Classroom 1511 at noon Dec. 1; and Doug Dyckes of Chemistry presenting the Chemistry Prize Talk in North Classroom 1511 at noon Dec. 8.
- CU Online turns 10 this year and faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to celebrate 3-5 p.m. Dec. 12 in the St. Francis Center.
- CU President Hank Brown and Chancellor M. Roy Wilson will host a holiday open house in the North Classroom Atrium 2:30-4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21. All faculty and staff members are encouraged to attend.
- President Hank Brown invites the downtown Denver campus community to attend CU Night at the National Western Stock Show, along with alumni, friends, Ralphie and Chip on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. For more information and to purchase discounted tickets, go to www.cu.edu/nwss.html.
